  • ½ cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 23 jalapeños, seeded and finely diced
  • ¾ cup buttermilk (plus extra for brushing)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, and optional garlic powder.
  3. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in the cheddar cheese and diced jalapeños.
  5. Add buttermilk gradually, mixing gently until just combined.
  6. Turn dough onto a floured surface; pat to about 1 inch thick. Cut into rounds or squares.
