  • 1/2 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 4 slices rye bread
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese
  • 1 tablespoon mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Season the ground beef with salt and pepper, then form into two equal-sized patties.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, melt unsalted butter and sauté the sliced onions until caramelized (about 10 minutes). Remove from skillet and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, cook the beef patties over medium-high heat for 3-4 minutes per side or until desired doneness.
  4. Spread mayonnaise on one side of each slice of rye bread and Dijon mustard on the opposite side of two slices.
  5. Assemble the sandwiches with Swiss cheese, cooked beef patties, caramelized onions, and another slice of Swiss cheese before topping with remaining bread.
  6. Grill in the skillet over medium heat for about 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown.
